My Journey to Becoming a Yoga Teacher

It seemed appropriate to start with a blog post about the journey I've taken to becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher.

I have always been a physically active person - I grew up playing soccer, running, swimming - so the necessity to move was ingrained in me from a young age (thanks parents!). When I entered my teen years, as it does for many women, my self love and self esteem started to dwindle. I stopped being active for fear of looking stupid or being judged - And if I was active it was because I was trying to lose weight or fit into some sort of feminine ideal. I lost my love for movement. As I look back on my teen years now they feel like a bit of a battlefield, I popped out the other end a little beaten up but ready to move on.

As I exited my teens and early twenties I started to reconnect with that desire to move. I started being active again because I loved it and it made me feel good in the moment. I used it as a form of therapy and would run to clear my head, or put head phones in at the gym and just zone out for an hour. It reminded me how grateful I am to be able to use my body the way that I do. It was at this time in my life that I found yoga.

I started practicing yoga sporatically at first but the more classes I attended the more it gained momentum in my life. A few years later, Spring 2014, is when it started to become a regular practice in my life and I could feel the effects of yoga seeping into all areas of my life. Connecting with my breath gave me a tool to utilize in any difficult situation in my life. This lead to me taking on workshops, volunteering at studios, and eventually completing my 200HR Yoga Teacher Training. The changes I expereinced were not the greatest on my mat in my phsyical practice but in the way I lived my life and approached the world

This brings us to the present momemt and what the future holds. The more I've learned about the practice of yoga, the more I've come realize just how much there is to learn, and how much I do not know. That's why its called a 'Yoga Practice' because like anything else you must devote time, and energy to practicing this tradition in order to continue to grow. So that's my plan - to continue my own growth on this path and share these teachings with those who are willing.

Namaste.
