Hello Again Friends!

My attempts at posting regularly have left a little something to be desired - if Jenna and I posted as often as we discuss these blog posts we'd be far more successful. So apology extended however today I am writing a post I think you'll either find interesting... or... you'll stop after the next line.

Today I'm going to discuss my first experience using the Diva Cup!

I've been meaning to try out the Diva Cup for quite a while... and by a while I mean YEARS. The two main reasons why are:

1. My personal health. I have primarily used tampons up until this point and I find it a littler terrifying that I have no idea what they're made of.

2. The "health" of our environment. If I use an average of 4 tampons a day x 5 day cycle x 12 cycles a year x 15 years of periods = 3,600 TAMPONS!?!? I have not previously done that math so those capital letters were genuine shock.

So let's get to the story - When I was in the store doing my monthly pre-cycle shop of feminine products, I met eyes with the Diva Cup box on the shelf and knew that I just had to bite the bullet. I proceeded to the check-out counter with my Diva Cup, ice cream, and chocolate daring the cashier to raise an eye brow.

I got home. Read the directions a number of times. Boiled my diva cup. And... well piece the rest together. My initial thoughts were fairly similar to what I remember thinking the first time I tried a tampon.. I can barely tell its there, this is way better than a pad, and there's no way I'm not going to bleed everywhere!

Anyway, So the next day I went to work sporting my Diva Cup resisting the urge to share this fact with all of my coworkers... "Guess what I'm wearing today!?"

I started to have some doubts halfway through the day so decided to message the group chat my sisters and I have:

And like every good sister does she answered my questions and calmed my fears.

So there you have a little insight into the initial struggles I had with the Diva Cup.

I will summarize my findings below:

1. There are actually two different kinds of Diva Cups so when you purchase yours take a look at the side of the box and make sure you're buying the right one for you! I didn't realize this until I got home so luckily I had chosen the right one.

2. Inserting the Diva Cup was a tad odd and I found it a bit difficult to place perfectly so I could no longer feel it but I think this will get better with time.

3. As stated in the above conversation I did find removing the Diva Cup to feel like I was trying to suction out my insides - however I learned that by lightly squeezing the sides this is far less severe than my first try.

4. I personally found trying to sleep with it in unsuccessful however my sister the Diva Guru says she does all the time.

5. I didn't try doing yoga or any other physical activity using it but Diva Sister believes she ran a half-marathon wearing one. Some people eat ice cream using a cookie as a spoon in bed. Some people run for 2 hours. Same Same.

6. I found that after the second day of my cycle the Diva Cup was uncomfortable I'm assuming because my flow was lighter.

7. I found my cramps better this month which I don't know if that's a coincidence or because I'm now considered a DIVA!

In conclusion, I will certainly be trying this again next month. There are a few things that I think will just get ironed out over time. I have faith in the enthusiasm expressed by all the Diva Cup wearing humans out there that this is the optimal choice.

Well there you have it folks! An entire blog post about me. My period. And my Diva Cup.
