Today I am going to write about why I choose to workout...
There are some pretty obvious reasons why someone who practices yoga would workout.
1. Its a healthy chocie
2. The gains in strength can make some of those super cool inversions and arm balances a little closer to becoming a reality.
3. We have to wear yoga pants all the time... and let's be honest... there are more flattering clothing options out there.
4. It gives you an excuse to have that third or fourth piece of pizza... I'M CARB LOADING!!
5. You can post it on social media and tell all your friends that you went to the gym! #gainz Is that the right hashtag?? I don't even know.

<--- Proof of working out!!
But here is the reason I have chosen to get myself back into the gym in the past few months... it frees my yoga practice from the pressure of being a workout.
Let me explain...
When I first started practicing yoga, as is the case with many people, I was looking for the physical benefits. But the more I practiced the more I realized that the most profound changes weren't going to be the physical ones.
I am a bit like a dog with extra energy - if I don't get my crazies out I feel lethargic and scattered at the same time. So if I went to a yoga class and felt like I didn't get in a really good physical workout I left feeling disappointed. But I started to feel like I was missing the point of a yoga practice!
So I decided to get back into the gym a few times a week to move my body, and get the crazies out. It has allowed me the mental space to appreciate yoga for more than just the physical movements and allow for a deeper appreciation of the practice.
So there you have it folks. That's why this yogi has decided she's a bit of a gym rat. Maybe more like a gym mouse. Don't look directly at me or I'll run and hide.... also give me your cheese.
